thanks for all the great suggestions they have been very helpful. i have been keeping a list of all possible motor substitutions i will check out in my search.
seems the front and rear profile of this small 3 cylinder block is kind of distinctive. a good question might be, are there any other blocks that appear to have the same profile but are only slightly different and would not fit. the yanmar diesel could not be mistaken and sure looks like NO fit. if there is nothing that looks close enough to the same profile that could be mistaken for desired target block then all the units i am seeing that seem to have the same profile might/would fit.
maybe might the perkins 3.152 fit. it seems to have the same profile?
seems the motor is connected to the flywheel housing that is the connection between the motor and the clutch housing so if i buy gasket R70483 and it mates correctly with the block then i should be good to go? so long as the over all length of block is correct.
