I bought a '88 year model Ford 3910, 3 cyl 50 hp in an estate sale a few years ago. Owing to the fact that it was an estate sale I imagined the owner put few hours on it in later years since it only had 900 original hours and the Proofmeter was functioning...modern day dash assembly which I easily replaced due to discoloration.
My first oil-filter change started in the usual manner and new oil turned black immediately.......Hmmmmm! Drained the oil and stuck my finger in the hole and felt about 1/4 of sludge. Put in new oil-filter and added a 16 oz. can of Sea Foam. Cranked it up and let it run at about 1k RPM for half an hour sitting still.
Drained that and felt the pan and the sludge was gone. Re filled with new oil-filter and I got clear honey colored oil after I cranked it and running it a few minutes.
