I have been using glacial acetic acid lately. Just a few days ago I put in two welders vise grips that had the plating worn off the handles and thus rusty. The GAA I have is 99.85% pure and food grade. After two days all the rust was black and virtually all of the remaining cadmium plating was peeling off. Wire brushed and sprayed them down with Molykote metal protector. I didn't expect the plating to come off.
