What manual are you looking at? Got your OEM 600 & 800 OPERATOR'S MANUAL out? Page 60 & 61 list the specs. An 860 and an 861 are the same engine, 172 CID OHV Red Tiger, diesel used the 192 CID. Oil Capacity for all FORD's is 5 QTS in the crankcase including the Filter. Don't know where you get 3 and 8 from. Oil grades have nothing to do with capacity --- a QUART IS A QUART no matter if it is oil or beer. FORD spec'd oil grades to use as SAE-10 or SAE-20 in 32* F and below temps; and SAE- 20 or 30 in temps above 32*F. You don't have to use a straight SAE grade today. Nowadays you can use whatever you want. The detergent grades used today are better and will not harm your old FORD engines. Many use standard 5/10W-20, 30, or 40, or Shell Rotella, and others.
