You are correct about his salary. He played football for the Minnesota Gophers and then the Green Bay Packers. When the USA got involved in WWII he joined the Army Air Force and became the Captain of a B 17 and flew 16 missions. His plane was shot down over Germany, he survived and spent the next 18 months in a prison camp. Eventually came home and was a successful businessman.
