There are a number of reasons: 1)The next generation is not joiners. They do not join clubs or organizations as their forefathers. They do thing have other ways of interaction that we do not understand and/or care for. 2)The plows on most farms, including mine are gone except for 2 single bottom horse plows that are rusted decorations in the garden area. Therefore equipment is hard to come by.. 3)We spent many hours following a furrow, the next generation never have plowed. It is an antiquated method of farming that they have no interest in.
You have to remember what is fun for us, probably is not fun for the next generation. Im sure you remember when your dad wanted to do something he thought was so much fun and you just wanted to go somewhere else.
BTW: besides last fall in Andover SD, the last plowing contest I attended was at my cousins farm in the 1960s. The local dealers,JD, IH, MM, Ford & Case were competing for real.
