I bought a Generac brand 11kw with a conventional generator and their automatic power transfer switch back in 2014. It is fully automatic. It runs 15 minutes, once a week to keep the battery charged and things lubed up. I installed it myself with the instructions included and had the power co. come out and certify it's safety for their linemen when finished with the hookup. I have a full functional house and never had an overload problem
I use Mobil 1 5w-30 and change it once a year. Only problem I have had of any kind was the OEM oil filter started leaking at the seam because for some reason manufacturers, in lots of types of equipment torque the filters wayyyyy tighter than the 3/4 turn the filter mfgrs. specify for installation.
I can't comment on an inverter as I never have seen one.
