From my 70, Sprint is nearly correct. The manifold had two openings for the adaptor to bolt on, but from the factory the one to the rear had a cap over it. Years of work and weathering would cause the rear opening to rust to the point that the cap would fall off and could not be put on whereas a second pipe would bolt on instead. Staying with one pipe could be done but it is much harder than putting a second pipe on.
