I did a little digging, and there is an actual tire called a "Ground Grip" made by Firestone. They're exactly what I suspected the OP was asking about:
All I can say is, good luck. You're not going to find them any specific place, and most any you will find are so old they'll be rotten.
There is also a "Champion Ground Grip" by Firestone which is more of a conventional 45 degree lug. Again, good luck finding a set that aren't rotten. There is one 12.4x38 on Ebay right now, only $695.
