Was starting to build the Registered Guernsey herd that has been a project for nearly 60 years. Also haying most of the summer and 4-H- the county fair was always a big deal. Dad never let me plant or run the corn picker, but unloaded wagons and disced with the John Deere G that i still have when not in school. Over several summers, dad and i cemented in a fairly big cow yard. I ran the cement mixer - 5 shovels of gravel and 1 of cement. Was always ready for dinner after doing that. Started with three heifers in 1964 and now down to 4 old cows and a few young stock. Gave up milking some years back. Also keep a few beef cows, the last of the herd that started on this farm in the 1870's. Should do my family a favor and sell them all, but sentiment- it's hard to let them go.
