About 10 years back, a former neighbor was discing with a small Case 4wd tractor. The ground LOOKED solid. Not being familiar with such ground conditions, I never would have known this could happen as I had never experienced it before. But the ground let loose under her tractor and it just spun wheels. Nothing to get traction with. Nothing! Just muck underneath what LOOKED to be solid ground. It was just a thin solid crust, like what you'd find on a cream pie.
After seeing what happened and some of the machinery that couldn't get the tractor out, I can now understand how such a thing could happen.
