I met a farmer on an airplane while flying back from Florida. He's from N Indiana and farms in N Indiana and Argentina. He claimed to Farm over 7000 acres. He also says each year he trades in half his JD's. It's cost effective, his 2 year old JDs are worth a lot. He claims he also gets a tax right off.
So some people look at all angles, can afford new tractors, and don't farm with old equipment.
On the other hand if you farm on weekends and work 40 hours to support your hobby you have no choice but to use old equipment.
Terre Haute has a very good CaseIh/Kubota dealer. JD dealers sell mostly construction equipment.
