Just to clarify. The Jones act does not only apply to HI or Ak. Two common routes that feel the act daily. It applies to any port in the U.S.
So for this discussion what it means is it is near impossible to load a ship in Houston or New Orleans with diesel and send it to the north east U.S. to help replenish the low supply. Mainly because we have no U.S. flagged oil tankers or very few if there is some I do not know about. So everything the gulf coast sends to the north east has to go via the colonial pipeline and it is running at maximum capacity right now.
I say this to try and explain how one part of the country can have excess U.S. produced products but can not send them to another part of the country quickly and to debunk the conspiracy theory answer.
