We plant 100 percent annual rye grass over summer Bahia but if you mixing in oats I would plant at the same time.
What works for us. We cut the field short. Overgrazing works but that leaves any weeds. Disc it. Not deep maybe 2 inches 3 at most as not to damage the Bahia. You just want to cut the surface so the seed gets good soil contact. Call the coop and they bring out a truck with a broadcast spreader on the back and big flotation tires. You can use a pto driven broadcast spreader but they are a pain with the small hopper doing 30 lbs per acre over a large field. You can put some P and K in with the seed but hold off on any N till the grass is established. Then pray for rain which is usually not a problem for us.
