The 8.3 engines are basically the same, with minor differences. I imagine the 5.9 followed suit. When the CDC 8.3 (Case/Cummins) in my CaseIH combine blew up, we found a Cummins out of a garbage truck to replace it. The front housing where the injection pump mounts was different. So we switched the whole front from one engine to the other without any problem. The valve cover is a little different as I had to go to CaseIH to get the proper gasket. The 5.9 in my CIH 5230 is naturally aspirated. The 5240 and 5250 I believe are turbocharged. That probably included things like after cooling, oil cooling, piston cooling, etc.
