Total loss of power when under load is an indication of a bad connection, partially discharged battery, defective battery, or shorted/locked starter.
Be sure the battery is fully charged and passes a load test, even though it is new.
Start methodically checking for voltage under load. Begin with the volt meter directly to the battery posts, move one lead at a time watching for where the voltage drops.
Six volt systems require everything to be right, no room for error. The cables need to be size 0 or 00, a common mistake is using automotive cables, they are too small.
If the voltage drop is consistent all the way to the starter, try removing the starter, see if the engine will turn. Sometimes the starter drive will jamb in the flywheel locking everything up.
