If you have a rig total that's over 10,000 GVW in Iowa you have to stop anyway. That's just a loaded 1 ton. Add a couple thousand pounds for trailer (with electric brakes for help in control), and 8000 pounds for tractor with loader. You've a significant rig, 20,000 pounds GVW. I've pulled 13,800 pounds in a 4 wheel wagon with my old 1 ton dually but not very fast. Slow was because of the super balloon tires that could have flopped wagon and load on its side. I've pulled 8000 pounds in a wagon with my half ton, but stopping got unreasonably exciting with brakes only on the pickup. My half ton is more comfortable with 5000 pounds on its rear. Better with a load equalizing hitch and electric trailer brakes. What ever you pick, the gears and transmission need to be set up for towing, else you have a town truck made for mileage and it won't pull the hat off your head... Most makers prefer to deliver the town truck to improve their fleet mileage rating. Gerald
