I broke a tooth off in phases, one piece every few months until only the root was left. Then it started to get infected. I had it pulled, and went without for a few years. Finally my dentist convinced me I needed to fix that, so we did an implant and a crown on it. It was traumatic to my wallet, but worked out really well. Sounds like a torqued head bolt when you tap on it. Probably still be there when all the rest of them break off and fall out, but right now they are all hale and hearty, at 72!
