Please don't use starting fluid!!!!

Open your hood and look on the back side of the intake manifold> You should see something that looks like a plumbing fitting with a small metal fuel line and one (1) wire running to it also. Ford called this their "Cold start System"
if yours has it it will work in one of two ways.....depending on weither your machine has ever had the ign. switch replaced. First, with the key off see if you can turn the key to the left to
what should be a spring loaded position, the other style switch won't turn to the left, but, has an extra bit of room to the right, just before the starter engages. If yours has this system, what happens is that a small amount of fuel is released into the intake, and an element sets it on fire, as you rotate the key to start, this is sucked into the cylinders and off she goes..
************ this is why you don't use ether!!!
things that you don't want could happen when the either and the element meet!!!!!!*********
When the system is working it really works pretty good, but, most tractors of this age or older that I saw usally needed a little work >(it has been used by Ford since the 1965 2,3,4000 series came out)If all you see is a plug closing off the hole, contact your local Ford, NewHolland Geo-Tech, Fiat
or who ever owns them this week, and see if you can still buy the kit, as it can be retro-fitted with a couple of hours work.
Good luck

Today's Featured Article - Show Coverage: Godfrey, Illinois Country Days - by Cindy Ladage. Except for last fourth of July's Old Gold show in Springfield, Illinois, I don't remember when it was so hot. Nevertheless, the heat didn't keep vendors and visitors alike from enjoying the third annual Country Day's Event. Jane Elliott said the event was originally a one man show. "Barry Seiler, owner of Country Town Farm Supply store used to invite people up to the Johne Deere store. He would give hats and a free meal for everyone that brings a tractor." Elliott said while this ... [Read Article]
