The vacuum trick will work as long as it is set to blow,sucking gas fumes through a vacuum is a story from Slowrol. I do wish I had saved that story. An old timer told my brother he had watched our dad weld a gas tank. The entire shop cleared out and dad put an exhaust hose in the tank and let it run for 30 minutes and welded it up. Our dad had told us the same story before,same story from two different people. The scary part was dad couldn't weld worth a hoot! Model A Ford.
