Mr. John T, nothing is ever absolute. There are exceptions to the rule such as yourself. Next time you're volunteering at the high school, look around. Is there anyone else there besides you volunteering? There should be one volunteer mentor for each kid in the program, but I'm betting the number of volunteers can be counted on one hand, perhaps even one finger.
What I'm trying to say is, just because you and perhaps a few others volunteer, that does not mean all is right and hunky-dory with the world.
In this day and age we've "learned" of the "dangers" associated with farming, so instead of a kid riding along with Dad on the fender of a tractor... Well that's too "dangerous" now so "Go inside little Billy, Dad's got work to do."
