I haven't seen any oil/filter changes for $39.99 lately, synthetic or otherwise, and suspect that your price is out of date.
Local Chevrolet dealer went from $49.99 with coupon to $59.99 with coupon about a year ago. Heard that price had gone up again recently.
I've been buying cars there for decades and still have not paid for any such services, though most have been done by the dealer. Those that have not have been performed by me.
Most worrisome to me is new guy stripping out threads in oil pan (happened to friend of mine at Toyota dealership about a month ago) and use of impact wrenches/torque sticks on lug nuts which always results in over torque. I always loosen/retorque lug nuts upon return home and all are always badly over-torqued unless missed.
Agree, that one is going to have at least $30.00 in oil and filter these days even if prudently shopping sales, etc.
