Yes Janicholson , I have had good results from acetone. We had a jeep that sat in the barn for 17 years. My son opted for a new gas tank , so I kept the old one. I cleaned it with acetone and then wire wheeled the outside of the tank and painted it with aluminum paint. The tank looks like new inside and out . I will sell it at a flea market in the future. It will be a good tank for a CJ7
