I just noticed the close paired black wires that come over the top of the alternator. I believe you mention them on your post on this in the IH board. Do they just go to a bolt that holds the two halves of the alternator together? If so remove them the were likely a ground on whatever the alternator originally came off of. As far as you saying you have ..feed back.. are you connecting the battery with the NEGATIVE post counting to the chassis and the POSITIVE post to the starter? The tractor needs to be negative ground now, with an alternator it can no longer be ran in the original positive ground configuration. Follow Steves linked diagram right down to battery polarity. Hooking the battery up as positive ground will almost immediately burn out the diodes in the alternator. The feedback you got on the IH forum was missing some details in both cases, again I will echo follow the diagram provided here.
