Work it until it dies on you, then get off and immediately check the spark. Put a paperclip in the spark plug boot, hold it near a good ground and with the key on, crank the starter. You should see a big, bluish-white spark. If you don't find out why. If you get the requisite fat, bluish-white spark, then your problem is most likely with restricted fuel delivery. These old machines sat in the blackberries for years before someone resurrected them and they are notorious for crap and corruption in the fuel delivery system. Open the bolt on the carb fuel bowl holding a suitable container under it. You should get a CONTINUOUS GUSH OF FUEL POURING OUT like a cow peein' on a flat rock. If it dribbles or is intermittent, work backwards to the tank to find the source of the blockage and remove it. The test is a CONTINUOUS GUSH OF FUEL OUT OF THE FUEL BOWL.
