Quote: CVPost-Geo-TH,In (quoted from post at 00:10:40 04/25/22) It's either fuel or ignition problem

The screen inside the fuel tank could be choked.

Remove the brass elbow connected to the fuel line one going to

the carb.

Most elbows have a screen to filter fuel.

Remove the bolt on the bottom of the carb bow to see how fast

fuel is flowing..

I have owned this tractor since 2016 and the problem only started in the last 12 months. The tractor ran fine before that. I had not done much of anything but put gas in it and change the oil. All of a sudden last summer I was out mowing and it started to sputter then stall. Put new points in it, then an electronic ignition. Runs fine when its cool out but not when its warm or hot. We thought we set timing right but maybe not and running too hot. Rebuilt the carb last summer too after it started acting up. Still did not fix problem. Tractor never had a sediment bowl and screen. When i bought it off a friend it had a paper inline filter and it ran fine on that for years. And i have a shut off valve too after the filter. I replaced the filter after carb did not fix the situation. New filter did not fix it.

The heat shield is not horrible but not great either. And the manifold has a crack in it that looks like it was welded/brazed years ago. The fuel line is steel i think but i have rubber fuel line from gas tank to filter and then to shut off valve and then to steel fuel line.

I keep hearing about gas boiling, vapor lock, starving carb thus starving engine of fuel. I just dont understand why its a problem now?? Other than the theory that if timing is off tractor with have hotter exhaust. Which seems plausible to me. When we installed the electronic ignition all seemed to move properly in the distributor. But maybe timing is not quite right.

I swear the temp gauge is barely in the green when the tractor quits on me. But if its cold out side temp gauge never gets into the green and not problems with tractor running. And it always seems to be quitting when pto is running.

What if i wrap the fuel line in exhaust tape to insulate it from the manifold heat? And wrap the manifold too?

Today's Featured Article - Field Modifications (Sins of the Farmer) - by Staff. Picture a new Chevrolet driving down the street without it's grill, right fender and trunk lid. Imagine a crude hole made in the hood to accommodate a new taller air cleaner, the fender wells cut away to make way for larger tires, and half of a sliding glass door used to replace the windshield. Top that off with an old set of '36 Ford headlight shells bolted to the hood. Pretty unlikely for a car... but for a tractor, this is pretty normal. It seems that more often than not they a ...
