Being a Heavy tillage gear, and decades of use, it is in need of some TLC. several things can contribute to the issue: It can have a worn intermediate (pilot) top shaft bearing, there could be worn/loose front main bearing set. The spring and ball detent could be rusted and failing, the gear teeth could be worn, and the shift fork could be bent some. Pulling the belt pulley (or blanking plate) can let you look at the system, but not fix much. Pulling the platform allows the vision to be improved. The top shaft front input shaft and intermediate bearing can be servoced/replaced without a split if the clutch shaft and coupler are taken out. The counter shaft cannot. Jim
