On the pan seats that tractors initially use, you can keep them. I like something more modern with a backrest.
On the seat and the backrest thing, I was restoring a '39 Ford Coupe with the flat head V8 and had to move it with the seat out. Well having a clutch and 3 on the tree, sitting on the floor pan trying to drive the thing makes you appreciate a good seat with a back to push against when shifting and steering....never knew how much I used the seat back till I did this.
On my tractors, every time I use them I marvel at how the backrest makes driving for long periods more appealing.
