There will be less demand for US and Canadian farm goods in the future decades. Long term trend? Seems iffy given population growth continuing. Effective eating habit changes might also mitigate US/Canda demand.
Another long term adjustment on the horizon is the morphing of gas cars to electric. The American farmer (don't know about Canadians) has planted clear to where the fence used to be, fertilized to the best maximum, used much improved hybrids all to produce more corn because much of it was used to make ethanol gas additives. With the continued assault by scientists about the inefficiency of that process and combined with less gasoline useage, I see big adjustments in corn prices some twenty years down the road. Will exports increase? Hmmmm.
will taxpayers be coming to the rescue, saving set aside acres? I do not see our government controlling the acre amounts to be planted. I lived (not a farmer, but from a farm) and watched, listened to and helped father successfully end his farming career right during the early eighties.
