The original post asked about those tractors with three point rock shafts, but no links. I believe that tractors ordered without three point did NOT have rock shafts or rock shaft arms. Its possible that a dealer having a three point tractor in stock would have removed as much as possible for his parts bin to deliver a lower cost tractor, but the only other explanation I've found is that some owner removed the arms and links because he didn't use them. The geometry in the 4020 and 3020 arms makes them flop outwards and bang on the tires unless they are tied together. I keep a bunge cord on mine to stop that. When these tractors were new, it was possible to do the complete farming operation without three point equipment. Cultivating with a JD CCA field cultivator should have been hard on crop but possible. Or for that matter a front mounted cultivator was still around. Today its posssible to raise row crops without using the drawbar. (If using trucks for hauling.) Gerald
