Note: In June 2017 a Neighbor asked if I would look at his JD 70 Diesel. It had a JD 720 Head.... head gasket had to be replaced.
After getting the whole story....... the head was replaced, as the original head was cracked. Replacement head had NOT been torqued, (as with a torque wrench) or re torqued!
Coolant was evident in Crankcase..
Installed new head gasket, torqued head as per JD service manual, ran engine up to 180 deg. Retorqued, checked valve clearances... all is now great.
I had owner look at the head.... VALVES are not correct height / depth in head...
