O K, A little explanation of some of the equipment. Starting with the Idaho Potatoe Truck down that we have all seen on TV, the next is the latest New Holland self propelled bale wagon for small squares. They also make them for the large square bales. Next two pictures are of berrie harvesters like raspberries and blue berries. These are also very similar to olive harvesters. The next picture is a tomato harvester and then the Freeman Baler. Freeman seems to be the baler of choice as they make them in PTO, Hydraulic and engine driven with the engine driven by far the most popular. The next large blue machine is used to clear what is called a spent grove and is used in conjunction with a healthy excavator and after the excavator pulls the tree out by the roots it places it on the feeder conveyor and the machine makes wood chips out of the tree and will either spread them on the ground or load them in a semi trailer. If I remember correctly that chipper has a 775 horsepower Cat engine in it. Next is the pickup in the air. I don't know why but thought it was worth the picture. I had to zoom in on it to even see it clearly but I think it was a part of the Toyota Display. The next picture is of a power pruning machine. A very wicked looking machine with everything whirling. They also have equipment that picks up the sticks after the trees get pruned. Last is a new John Deere Chopper. These modern headers are not row specific meaning they will feed in anywhere even if the machine is going across the way the rows were planted. Somewhere I forgot the backscratcher for the cow.
A little explanation of the show and the area. The show takes place every year in Tulare, California except last year because of the pandemic. The area is the San Joaquin Valley which is one of the most productive areas in the country. Their are four main citrus crops, Oranges, Grapefruit, Lemons and Limes. Four main nuts grown, Pecans, Walnuts, Pistachio and Almonds. The rest of the crops grown are endless from Asparagus to Zucchini and everything in between. The Valley is virtually all irrigated either wells or the canal system and a million and a half cows milked in Tulare County alone. Hope this helps. If you want more pictures let me know. Tom

Today's Featured Article - The Day Mom Drove the 8N - by Brian Browning. My Dad was wanting to put in a garden but couldn't operate the 8N and handle the old horse drawn plow he had found and rigged up to use with the tractor. Well, he decided to go get Mom out of the house and have her drive the tractor while he walked behind the plow. You got to understand that while my Mom is a hard worker who will always help whenever she can... she had never operated farm machinery before that day. Dad got her out there, explained how the clutch was the same as in our o ... [Read Article]
