A tractor I acquired recently (Ford with the 172 cu in gas motor) smokes from the exhaust when running. No smoke when first started, but after it is running for a few minutes and starts to warm up is when it starts to smoke from the exhaust. Seems to be oil burning smoke. It's running smooth with good throttle response. Would this seem to be rings or valve guides letting oil into the combustion chamber? Hoping a head job would fix the problem but I'm not sure. I have not checked compression yet. Starts and runs normal other than the smoke.
