Probably depends on the motor. Some equipment you would NOT want to run backwards. A grain auger you wouldn't want to run backward. A post hole digger on the other hand would be handy to be able to run backwards. You could get it back out if it caught on a rock or tree root, and corkscrewed into the ground.
