I also pull the batteries from anything that won't be used for months, winter or summer. I have shelves full in sets of a half dozen (one minder will take care of six average sized batteries). I have five minders like the one in the OP's post; they run about $40 apiece. Been doing this for ten years or so and batteries seem to last a lot longer.
