COULD BE... the junk oil is properly cleaning the engine up and dissolving all the crud build up... SO now, your seeing the leaks or usage. Oil that is fortified with a higher TBN number will clean more than oil with the lower numbers. And if it keeps the sludge in suspension correctly, walla!!! you now are using oil due to the sludge being removed that the earlier oil did not do its job correctly. OR maybe not. But the oil you call junk oil does have a very good record with literally millions of hd vehicles in service. There is a volatility measurement that concerns how much oil is vaporized out the vent... and all the hd diesel oils meet that test.
