as far as overloaded wagons go, i think i will add borax to the list. these wagons were not just used once in a while, but huge wagons used for years, two wagons and a water tank totalling over 73,000 lbs covering 165 miles in 10 days. the two wagons weighed 7,800 empty, each.
and a engels coach shop in joliet montana recently recreated the pair of wagons and the water tank, great videos to watch on youtube about the construction, wheels weighed over 1,000 lbs each
