Years ago I ran into a Ford industrial engine, 172 cu. in. I think, in a log skidder with a cracked exhaust manifold, pretty much broken in two if I recall correctly.
Ran terrible, couldn't get it to run right. Talked to an oldtimer with experience on those machines. Replace the manifold he said then fine tune it.
Did that, ran perfect with very little adjustment after.
