Bob, I just set mine and turned the fly wheel around a dozen times before I found the mark. It is hard to find. As Brian said, there is a line and it says Fire, but mine I can only see the F. I've set the timing before, but still had trouble finding it. I have a hand crank and it seems to be at TDC when the crank handle is about 5-10 degees past vertical. This is not accurate, due to the differences in the nut tightness and any twist in the handle. It would have helped a lot to have some one looking while turning. You could try turning the engine with a kerosene soaked rag held agains the fly wheel to try to clean off any grease that has filled up the markings. Good luck!
