You're just lucky. When an animal comes out from behind a bush and gets in front of you there is no way to avoid it. Been there. Done that.
Caution only goes so far. In my life, I have only hit two. One was a dog came out of nowhere when I was about 17 years old. It ran right in front of me, rolled under the can I was driving, and ran off as if it were not hurt. No idea what happened to it. The second one was just yesterday. Some kind of animal came out in front of a car coming the other way. The car bumped it and it bounced right in front of me. There is NO WAY you could tell me that either one was avoidable.
