That valve is there to allow pressure out if you are filling from a wet leg on a LP tank. If your LP supplier is pumping the gas in you don't need it.
If you are taking it out anyway, I would strongly suggest you replace it with the same valve in new condition. They are not that expensive and if ever needed you will be able to fill with a wet leg a lot easier.
Yes you can plug it, but if you go to the trouble to take it out, then fix it right. Your LP supplier should have the part. Bob
