I hate to say it, but forget the lawn mower and I-beam drag idea. You need a 3 point blade on a tractor, or better yet, a hydraulic pull behind box blade. If you don't have the equipment, perhaps you or your college buddy knows somebody that does. If you was just using a harrow section, or an old set of metal box springs to fill in a pot hole or two, your idea would maybe work. But your trying to gouge and move to much rock with no way to raise and empty out to turn around. With a 3 point blade, or box blade, you could raise, turn around, lower, and drag pile back the other way. And even gradually raise so your not leaving a pile at all.
