I had a 56 3/4 ton with grain sides on the box. Went to the local sand plant one time pulling a trailer. Asked for 2 1/2 ton. The operator dumped what looked like a ton in the trailer, got another scoop and began dumping into the truck. I was standing in front, and it seemed like he was putting a lot in there so I walked around and looked. The sand was piled half way up the grain sides. I frantically wave for him to stop. He jumped out to see what was wrong, then told me it wasn't even close to the overloads yet. Rolled across the scale at 14,300 net on load. The truck pulled it fine, but didn't like to stop much. Rode a lot better with the load too That truck started life with a 272. When I got it, it had a 292 taken from a school bus. That was far from the only time I loaded her a touch heavy. Back then, Ford tough was an understatement. When I sold it, all the sheetmetal was still straight, and the only rust hole was in the running board.
