Hello Daniel welcome to YT! Yes gears are what times the cam and Mag drive. Check it out yourself see link. Not sure if the machine you have matches the serial number range of the diagrams I chose. The electrical section only shows a distributor. If it is wrong you can choose the correct ones by clicking ..model.. to search and type in 310. Most all farm tractors and industrial machines utilize gears for that. Have you had it running or are you trying to start it after it sat somewhere for quite sometime? If it sat it is possible that an intake valve has stuck. Pull all the plugs and spin it over holding your thumb over the plug holes one at a time to see if they all push equal compression out. Most likely if one or more is way less it likely has a stuck valve.
