Thanks for the replies, guys. I will check with my local body shop for results, I had not thought of them. I've heard good things of the Honda bond, as well.
The tank split on a mold joint, right where it exits the front panel. The tank extends up from the front panel and is behind the nose of the hood. I replaced the plastic nose piece of the hood a couple of years ago as it had cracked in multiple places, and the new one split rather quickly- like it was being twisted. I will follow up to see if the front panel is stressing both items- it has not been hit or show any dents. I can't see the cast base twisting, but will check that, too.
