Not always but often when one is getting excessive brake dust showing on the front wheels the cause is the rear brakes not doing their fair share.
Might not hurt to do an inspection on the rears while you are at it.
As far as pads go;
-Economy organic; Cheap to purchase, friction material wears out faster, rotors last a very long time.
-Ceramic pads; Long lasting but very hard on rotors, they work well on the right applications, heavy haulers, circle track cars etc.
On a first cold application they will not provide as good stopping power.
-Semi metallic; A balance between the two, longer lasting, good stopping power, will slightly wear rotors, more than adequate stopping power on most passenger vehicle types of applications.
