Jon, you assume that there will be hundreds of people patronizing local businesses. Up to a point, there may be some truth to that, but I suspect that there will be less than a hundred and the effect on local business will be minimal and temporary.
Mark, I doubt if you have been to Huntington Beach either. You also assume that there are 5-star hotels and Michelin rated restaurants in the vicinity of this spill. By what line of reasoning do you assume that? And, frankly, if I were starving in the desert, I would not eat a big mac.
For what it is worth, I find fast food to be terribly expensive, hence I refute your use of big mac as a reference to cheap food. Where I live, I can go into a diner or a family restaurant and have a meal brought to me of quality food for about the same money as a fast food meal of a couple of sandwiches, fries, and a drink.
