you must be talking the old john deere D you could put in 1/4 diesel fuel and she would be happy. they even had a water valve to inject water into the cyl's when working hard. but yes that fuel mixture is a bonus to any engine. basically it lubes the valve guides. then there is people putting valve seals on these old engines that never ever had valve seals guess they really want to wear out the guides. once yuor valve guide is worn the valve walks around and widens the seat and really cause valve wear. then you get low compression and a loss of power.
