Excellent question. The folks that hang at this site all think they have the right answer (me too). There are many tractors that will do the job you want done, and in the price range too. The 8N advice given to you is correct if you are going to emphasize the plowing and heavy work. They are fine for general work tho. The Deeres tend to run higher prices than the Farmalls for similar equipment, and the other makes seem to fall in between. Figure out if a row crop tractor (with tricycle wheel set up) will work for you, or if you will need a wide front end for more stability. There are LOTS of row crop tractors in your part of the country. Also think about whether you want to pay the extra for a front loader. This is a wonderful item, but adds cost, needs a wide front style tractor and should have (but doesn't have to have) 4wd. Since there are so many options, you might want to start by finding out what is available and narrow your search around what you see to choose from.
