The marketing department at Oliver had a campaign in the 1960's to market Oliver plows as working well with any color tractor. In about 1966 the factory at Charles City painted two 1850's purple to go with their marketing campaign to sell more plows. It is thought these two tractors went to some Iowa county fairs, the Farm Progress Show and the Iowa State Fair. Legend has it the tractors were sent back to the factory and never sold. The paint codes were supposedly sent to some regional Oliver branch houses, where some dealers could access them if they wanted to have a purple tractor on the lot. The tractor below may be a recreation ( or is it ? ) of the original purple Oliver. This picture from from a tractor show in Penfield several years ago. There is one other recreation of a purple Oliver in Michigan.
